The WWT dance team left the Palace with their heads held high after their accomplishments at the Palace Pom Competition. They prepared for months on end and not only did they dance their hearts out, they took home 7th place in the small varsity division.
The WWT dance team’s main objective was just to do well and use this competition as a learning experience, but taking 7th place out of 16 teams is the best they have done in years.
On the morning of the competition, the team met in the front parking lot the school. On the way to the competition they had a chance to talk to each other and relieve any nervous feelings. “It was most definitely nerve racking, but once we got on the floor, we pretty much rocked it out,” Hayley Pulizzi ’13 exclaimed.
Their team had a wide range of experience with some first time competition dancers to competition experts. “That was the best time we ever preformed that dance. I thought it went really well,” Chelsea Constantine ’12 explained. This was her first time at the competition. Hayley Pulizzi had danced in the competition a year before, yet was a bit nervous for making top 10. “Since we had a chance to make top 10, I made everything ten times stronger, practically dying after the performance was done,” Hayley Pulizzi stated.
In the competition the dancers had to follow specific guidelines, such as using original choreography and being able to finish their performance in a short amount of time. “I think taking 7th place was really good for us,” Chelsea Constantine said. “We aren’t as technical as the other teams, so we use our dance skills and choreography to our advantage.” This competition is very important to the dance team and they use it as a chance to improve, both as a team and individually.
The coaches would like to see new girls try out for the dance team and be able to experience the Palace Pom Competition. Anyone who wants to participate in the competition next year needs to try their hardest at every practice, work on technical moves, and go to the studio. These ladies work as hard as they can and would love for new people to join their dance team family.
