Troy Bowman, captain of the Boys Varsity Tennis team, was set on leading his team to States. After winning Divisions, the team qualified to go to States, and their captain was determined. “If we just keep on pursuing the goal like we have been then it’ll be somewhat simple,” Troy Bowman ‘16 said. Unfortunately, the season ended early and the team didn’t quite make it there. Despite that setback, Bowman leaves a legacy for his teammates as he ends his high school tennis career on a good serve.

Bowman, who has been first singles of the tennis team since his sophomore year, was more confident in his team than any other year of being captain. “I’m more confident this year than I have been with any other year, just because this year I believe our positions are lined up really well,” Bowman stated.

Not only is the tennis coach, Mr. Cutshaw, confident in Troy’s leadership skills, but also in the team as a whole because of his ability to lead them throughout the past three years. “He has been chosen captain by his teammates and as a captain he takes on a great deal of responsibility of handling the team and getting them to where they need to be,” Coach Cutshaw, WWT Boys Varsity Tennis coach indicated.

Through Bowman’s leadership as captain, many of his teammates gained self-assurance in themselves as well. “He practices with a lot of us before matches, and gives us tips to improve, such as how to better our serve,” Brandon Agents ‘16 comments. Agents, who is second singles, is a close friend of Bowman, who even owes his love for tennis to him! “Troy basically taught me how to play tennis and got me into the sport,” Agents adds.

The Boy’s Varsity Tennis team overall shaped up to end a promising season. Now that it’s over, Bowman leaves a stronger and better team, thanks to his dedication to them year after. He has helped mold the upcoming team for the next season and in spite of not making it to States, Bowman is able to end his last season of tennis happily.

As for the players who will be there for the next season without Bowman, they are proud and confident of their abilities, as they have grown under his leadership. “They can get to States and prove themselves worthy of being there,” Bowman adds lastly, confirming his strong confidence in the team he has helped mold over the past three years.
