Spring break is approaching and the seniors are getting really excited. This is the first taste of freedom that is being handed to them. They could be all alone in another state or wherever they choose to vacation. With great fun and responsibility also comes safety. I know the goal is to have a good time, but here are some tips to return home safe, ready for prom and graduation.
Let’s start with the drive to your destination. 20 hours is a long drive for people who are used to drives no longer than 20 minutes. Make sure you and your friends take turns driving, for those who can. It is important that you rotate drivers; you would not want one of the drivers getting too tired to a bad point. Also, switch up the person in shotgun. It is crucial that the passenger seat always stays up and talks to the driver, especially when it is dark outside. This eliminates the chance of the driver falling asleep at the wheel. Lastly, have a playlist made in advanced that everyone in the car can enjoy. Have lots of snacks and pop, and of course things to do! It is going to be a long trip!
Now, you’ve made it to your destination and you have to check in. When checking in be sure not to say your room number too loud, you never know who may be listening. Now you are in your room putting all your things in place before going to start the vacation, be sure on the way up that you look for fire exits, ice machines, laundry, and the closest stairs. All these things will come in handy. Lastly, do not put anything of value on the balcony and be sure to close your door tightly when leaving and entering your hotel room. ALWAYS make sure someone has a key when you leave.
You are all settled in and it’s time for fun! Here are a few last tips to stay safe during the sunny days of the vacation. First off, never walk around alone. You will be in a strange area where you do not know where much is outside of your hotel walls and the beach. Always walk around with someone else (preferably someone you came with), this will prevent any possible danger that might occur. What ever you are choosing to do in your free time, be cautious and careful. You are now old enough to know your limits, so set them before you leave. Lastly, wear sun block if you burn easy. Prom will be approaching upon your arrival home and you will want to look your best, not burned and splotchy.
I hope your spring break 2016 is amazing, enjoy the fun you deserve. Nevertheless, while having fun keep in mind these tips to ensure the best, safest possible vacation!
