If you’re looking to join more extracurricular activities after school, these new clubs could be a great option. Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) and The Debate Team are now apart of the many variety of clubs we offer at WWT.
SADD is a group that hopes to bring change to our community by saving lives.
“Drunk driving is more prevalent in today’s society and the members of SADD analyze the problems with it,” Jinjer Washington ‘18 and president of SADD said about the club. “We are trying to change the fact that so many people die due to drunk driving in various ways.”
Possible member Alaina Holloway ‘18 is excited about SADD being introduced to Tower. “Many kids in our school, especially in my grade, like to go out and party on the weekends and have fun. But I couldn’t bare the thought of having to attend a funeral of one of my classmates. I want to help kids know there is a consequence for their actions.”
SADD will be meeting on Monday’s in Mr. Vukich’s room (214).
The Debate Team is a new edition to Tower this year as well and will also be under the direction of Mr. Vukich.
“We get scripts of a trial that already happened and we act them out,” Debate Team member Vinny Jurban ‘18 explains. “It’s kind of like a drama club but it’s all done in the setting of a court. Eventually if we get a big enough team we can act situations out for judges and go into competitions against other schools.”
Amari Bennett ‘20 believes The Debate Team will be positive for WWT. “Debating always comes up in disagreements and such, so why not learn more about it and gain more intelligence to be able to use it more as an asset.”
At the moment there is not a set date and time for Debate Team meetings, however meetings are expected to take place in Mr. Vukich’s room (214). Both clubs hope to see you at a meeting very soon!
