It is always sad moment when we have to say goodbye to a teacher.  But it is a great moment when we get to welcome a new teacher to Tower. So you can imagine our excitement when we got to welcome three.

One of the teachers is a science teacher, Mr. Julien. His first year and he’s already into float and pep rally. He would like to get involved in communication camp. He would like to maybe help with coaching wrestling since he was a Gross Point North wrestling coach.

Mr. Julien is already getting involved in our school. He is the freshman class advisor. He went to Fraser High School and he attended Central Michigan University. In high school he was in wrestling and track. “I never really got involved in high school. I never went to homecoming so this year was my first homecoming. Ms. Mauhether was my first homecoming date,” Julien, science teacher, said jokingly.

Mr. Julien really likes the overall staff environment. He likes how everyone is friends and there are no department cliques. He is also impressed with the overall environment of Tower. “Ever since the first day I came here last year to sub, I knew I wanted to work here,” Julian said.

The new band instructor, Mr. Corpuz, has also added on to our new staff members. He went to Strongsville High School, which is a high school in the suburbs of Cleveland, and then he attended Ohio State University. He was very involved in his own high school. “I was in cross country, track, band, choir, orchestra, jazz band, pep band, show choir band, barbershop, select choir, and private lessons for percussion.”

Mr. Corpuz has already put so much time into our school. He is a part of band, choir, guitar class, drama, and all the time he spends after school. Every day after school he stays until 3:30 but Mondays he stays after with Jazz band while Fridays he stays after with select choir. “I can’t devote that much time, my family would kill me,” Corpuz said.

Mr. Corpuz is mostly impressed with his students and their willingness to work and adapt. He likes how the kids are willing to try, regardless of talent. Compared to other schools he has worked at, the sense of the community is different. He has taught in all three types of communities (rural, subdivisions, and urban) so he has gotten a feel for all kinds of schools.

Mr. Corpuz is a HUGE Disney fan and loves movies like The Muppets. But his all-time favorite movie is Ghostbusters. What people probably didn’t know about him is that when the Titanic came out was when he and his wife started dating. “We actually met in high school on a senior band trip,” Corpuz told us. So they are high school sweethearts.

The final new teacher is Ms. Rydent, the French teacher. She went to high school at L’Anse Cruise Central. She was an undergraduate at Saginaw Valley State University and attended University of Kansas for her graduate program. In high school, she was a part of NHS, the dance team, marching band, and choir. She taught at a private school before Tower and she says that we are much larger as a difference.

Ms. Rydent is going to join French Club and join the traditions of taking the trip to France. She is also going to teach adult ed. She is impressed in the involvement that goes on in Tower. She loves how the students are really excited for spirit week. “I went to the wonderful warrior game,” she commented on the warrior football game that Tower provided.

Something you might not know about Ms. Rydent is that she has a cat and she is a big nerd at heart. Her last comment to us was “I’m excited to be a patriot to the Warren Woods Tower team. Go titans!”
