Varsity players and coaches gathered at a banquet hall last night (Sunday 10/26) to watch State Champs on Fox Sports Detroit to learn who they would face in the MHSAA Football playoffs. The team had to wait about 35 minutes into the show until their name came up. During that wait several teams were slated to play against each other and the boys were to see that some of those teams would not be their opponent.
Cheers went up around the room when the Titans formally learned they would be playing Fitzgerald. “Who you will face in the tournament is decided by your record and playoff points. So we had somewhat of an idea what team we might be facing before the show but it was still nerve-wracking,” Darious Jordan ’15 starting quarterback said.
The players feel drawing Fitzgerald is good for their chances in the tournament. They feel they can make a deep run against this first opponent.
The night ended with a lot of yelling and the team’s signature “final breakdown” chant. Coach Mahar stressed that no matter who the opponent the team still needs to focus and work hard.
The Titans were in the tournament last year but in the first round to U of D in a heart-breaking loss.
The game will be played at home on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00!!!
