Someone’s first time to ever try out for a play and to get the lead role is quite interesting. David Pokriefka could no longer do wrestling so he joined swim, but it wasn’t enough for him. So Pokriefka decided to try out for his very first play. “I just thought I would try because I had friends that are in it and I thought it would be fun and interesting experience.”

The play that Warren Woods Tower is holding is The Sound of Music and Pokriefka got the male lead role, Captain Von Trapp. “My favorite scene is when I’m talking to Max Detweiler and Elsa Schaeder about standing up against the rising threat of the Nazis. They’re both not against the Nazi’s takeout of Austria but my character is because he is a proud Austrian.”

David has to go to Tower, then Butcher, then swim practice, and then play rehearsal. Keep in mind that after that packed day, he still has homework to go home to. And this is for five days a week. He comments on when practice is, “Rehearsal is after 5:30 Monday through Thursday. Rehearsal varies day to day; it depends what scene we are practicing.”

Even though all these things on top of the musical take up all his free time, he still loves doing the musical. It isn’t a dread and he wants to do it; he chooses to have a busy schedule. “I enjoy the acting but I also like how close the cast is.”

You have three nights to see David Pokriefka as Captain Von Trapp in the musical. The Sound of Music comes out April 19, 20, and 21.
