In an effort to increase awareness and raise money for breast cancer research and funding, students have employed the help of their fellow classmates. As you may have noticed, students and staff wearing the color pink have dominated the hallways of Warren Woods Tower high school. All of these people with a common goal: informing the general public – youth especially, about breast cancer.

As part of the increased knowledge portion of the fund-raising, students donned pink gear in honor  of those with the disease and those affected by it. The conversations at lunch and during passing time contain mention of breast cancer, and it remains a popular topic. Those who were uninformed of the event were quickly enlightened by people who were and even students who weren’t participating.

Students sold baked goods and ribbon pins throughout the day to raise money for research and funding. Long lines of people flooded the commons as people waited to purchase .25 cent cookies during the lunch hour, an immediate hit within the school body. Students also bought and wore pink ribbon pins as a statement of their support. 100% of the proceeds earned have gone to the research of breast cancer.

A vast majority of Warren Woods Tower staff and student body have participated in the collective fund-raising. Even those who were completely unaware of the event, completely support the cause. As one student states, “It’s crazy how many people came together for this, y’know… lots of people know what breast cancer is, but not many truly understand it,” recited Nigel Williams ’18. And that is what this fund-raiser was all about- people finally beginning to understand something they hear about so often.
