Amina and Amiya are freshman twins that attend Warren Woods Tower High School. During their game against Eisenhower, on December 4th, at home, both the twins injured themselves only within ten minutes of each other before half time. Both of their injuries were in the lower part of their leg.
“I ended up injuring my ankle at the Eisenhower game and it was sprained. It sucks because I’ve injured the same ankle in the past and I want it to fully heal. I am very sad I have to sit on the sidelines the next few weeks and not being able to go out and help my team, but I will support and cheer them on, “said freshman basketball player, Amiya Austin ’20.
The twin’s injuries hurts not only themselves, but their team as well. “My sister and I will usually play through any injuries, but we can’t because we won’t be able to fully heal and can make our injuries a lot worse,” the other twin on the team, Amina Austin quoted ’20. The other twin and also player on the freshmen basketball team. “My sister and I also want to lead our team even if we aren’t on the court, leading a team you’re so committed to is super important to us,” said Amina Austin.
The other twin Amina on the other hand, pulled a muscle in her calf and will be out for two weeks. “I can’t wait to be back on the court again when we play Mott High School. I hate being injured because I like to be a leader on the court and make my team work and get better. I believe my sister and I create a better and more motivational environment for our team and program and a sense of leadership,” said Amina.
