New to the showcase this week is the work of Mike Coniglio ’13. He spent the last three weeks working on a modernized, abstract Egyptian motif that conceals his name. His design utilizes a neutral color scheme which adds contrast and depth to the work. “I chose a simple black, silver, and white color scheme because I thought it went very well with all the designs” he said.
Mike said that he was encouraged by a friend who got him interested in art. “There aren’t any artists that inspire me, but there was a senior my freshman year who was on the wrestling team with me. He got me interested in art and taught me new techniques” he said. Mike has developed his techniques and improved upon them since his freshman year. There is no better example than his latest work, which he is very proud of. “This is my favorite art project I’ve done so far” Mike said.
Mike is still undecided as to whether or not he wants to make a career out of art. He appreciates that Mrs. Flanigan brings speakers to educate her students about schools in art, but they haven’t entirely convinced him. “I might consider it in the near future” he said.
Remember to stop by the showcase in the commons to admire Mike’s project when you have a chance.
