One huge change the school underwent last year was the parking lot. It was a huge change for everyone, especially drivers. This year we have a more internal one.

Over the summer 18 class rooms have changed significantly. The color, ceiling tiles, molding, and even the carpet will all look foreign to returning students.

The bond issue years ago set money for places that the school needed it. Between the parking lot and other subtle changes, there was extra money. Instead of adding in something like another vending machine, it was decided to clean up the learning environments… classrooms.

All this talk started months ago in January. The administrators found out we had some money left over from odds and ends of the bond issue.

It isn’t all of the classrooms getting a new coat of paint though. Each room costs so much money and to redo all classes would be way too much. “18 classes,” Mr. Mackenzie said.

Now if you know anything about WWT you would know that we have a lot of classrooms. When asked how they chose the classrooms he commented, “We walked through and looked at the rooms.”

From there they picked out the number that the budget would allow. The most in need of a revamp were then picked and the teachers met with Mr. Mackenzie.

Some classes have been the same for years. “7 years,” Ms. Schmid commented after thinking about it. She was one of the 18 classrooms picked to get a makeover.

“I’m excited to have new colors,” Ms. Schmid said. “More pleasing, softer colors. So it won’t look like a prison cell,” she laughed.

Ms. Schmid isn’t the only one excited about the new classes though. “It’s great,” Mr. Mackenzie added. “It’s a huge difference.”

But the colors aren’t the most exciting thing for Ms. Schmid. When asked what was the most exciting she commented, “The opportunity to have a say in the decision.”

Teachers actually got to pick the colors of the paint and molding. Now every classroom won’t look the same, they’ll each have their own home-like vibe.
