Having crushes or puppy love for celebrities is one thing, but to Nicole Battle ‘16 it’s a whole different story. Some people idolize a star and quickly get over it as time passes and new artists arise. But for others, one celebrity will always satisfy them, dead or alive.
Nikki has had an obsession with the one and only R&B and pop star Michael Jackson since March 26th, 2009 when she heard a few of Michael’s songs while her brother and his friend were watching videos of him. Since that day, she has been forever obsessed with MJ.
Nikki has always felt a connection to everything he seemed to do; even his quotes had very powerful meanings to her. “My favorite quote/lyric by him by far is “You are not alone, I am here with you. Though we are far apart, you’re always in my heart,” Battle says. This quote/lyric had a very heartfelt meaning to follow and she took it very personal.
Nobody is a better role model for her – he taught her real happiness and how to show others what true happiness is. “He also made me realize that it is not bad to love and help the ones who are younger than you and in need,” Nikki adds.
Michael Jackson has made quite an impact on all aspects of her life. “Michael filled my heart with love and compassion for everything around me no matter where they come from,” Nikki says.
He has taught her to accept everyone and how to treat others and loved ones. He taught her that there are better things in life than just being upset and miserable all the time and he taught her how to live with no regrets.
She couldn’t care less about what people have to say about him but when they try to state facts about him that she knows are wrong, she will not be satisfied until they know they have misunderstood him. Nothing irritates her more than when people think they know more than the fanatic does.
Her love for Michael had existed for 6 years now and he still makes her heart smile even after his passing. “And for the first time I didn’t feel alone or like there’s no one out there who understands me. Michael helped me stay strong and he’s the only one who can make me smile when I feel like I don’t have anyone,” Nikki adds.
If she could meet Michael, she would not be sure really how to act, but in the heat, fear, and excitement of the moment she knows exactly what she would say. “Thank you for everything you don’t even know you’ve done for me. I love you more than I’ll ever be able to love another person in my entire life,” Battle concludes.
Celebrities each day are extremely fortunate to have such die-hard fans like Nikki. Their fan’s dedication is what makes them so popular and without fans, celebrities would have nothing. It’s people like her who make it realize that famous stars actually do touch people’s lives and everybody needs somebody in this world.
