Warren Woods Tower has been a part of a fundraiser for needy families for four years, and will now be going onto the fifth. What everyone involved does is collect food and takes it to people’s homes. Money is starting to be collected and the drive will take place Dec. 13th through the 20th.
“Staff, Interact, STUCO and Booster Club all make donations. We give to families within our Warren Woods community,” Mrs. Gruban said, “I love that we are able to reach so many families with an unexpected surprise at the holidays.”
The money drive remains non-profit, but there have been some wonderful changes since it first began. “A couple years ago we got stuck in snow during delivery and taking the food to people’s homes took forever!” Mrs. Marx said, “So we started getting help from the church in which we give the money to their bank to harvest to make things easier.”
Another change is how they started using gift cards, “Using gift cards has been the best change we’ve had because is really helps and is easier to give,” Mrs. Marx said.
Mrs. Gruban, Mrs. Marx and Mrs. Anderson are the ones that run the drive. “I donate money, am a contact person with Mrs. Marx to collect donations, help select families and purchase the gift cards,” Mrs. Gruban said.
For years the money drive has had a big impact on everyone. “As an office staff we are amazed by and grateful to our staff, Interact, STUCO and the Booster Club for the monies donated. We often receive thanks and appreciation from the recipient as the card allowed them to do an extra something special for their family that they didn’t think they could. Helping others makes you feel good and makes you want to do more,” Mrs. Gruban said.
The money drive supports the school by all of it going to the purchasing of gift cards that are distributed to Warren Woods families. “Last year, 23 staff members, Interact, STUCO and the Booster Club helped raise $2335 which went to 92 Warren Woods Tower families. Our goal for this year is to be able to help over 100 families. I think it is such a big event because we are in an amazing community with supportive, caring staff, student body and Boosters. It really is a win-win, you feel good helping others and you feel good when you are recognized during the holidays,” Mrs. Gruban said.
Again, the money drive will take place either December 13th or 20th and money is starting to be collected now, so get involved!
