February 1st-28th our school is hosting a shoe drive where you are able to bring in any old pair of shoes that you no longer use and donate them to people in need. All shoes can be donated as long as they are still usable. Shoes with holes will not protect someone else’s feet, therefore do not bring badly damaged footwear. There will be a box in the front of the school where you can donate your old shoes.
National Honor Society came up with the idea while looking on the internet for service opportunities,” President of NHS Nico Martini ‘17 stated.
The shoe drive just started so there is still plenty of time to help people in need. So many of us have way more pairs of shoes than we really need, and for the most part a lot of older pairs go untouched. Those pairs of shoes that just take up space in the back of your closet because you think they aren’t stylish enough anymore can actually be of use. “You should donate your old shoes because they have no use to you anymore, but they could really help someone else,” Martini added.
The goal of “Soles4Souls” is to collect as many shoes as possible to help out as many people as possible. “NHS with the help of all students want to give back to the community,” Martini said.
Go check your closets as soon as possible for any old shoes you no longer wear and bring them into school. Helping out someone in need gives you a warm fuzzy feeling that lasts forever. There’s no reason to not participate in the shoe drive if you have footwear that you no longer use.
The donation boxes are located by both front and back main doors.
