Jauron Vicks (’17) started playing basketball when he was about 5 years old. Jauron’s family is very basketball orientated, which is why he started playing. Jauron also has 3 older brothers who inspired him to play and strive. “Watching my brothers play and watching them be good at basketball, made me want to be better than them,” Jauron (’17) says. Jauron also says his whole family is extremely supportive. “They have came to almost every game since I was little,” says Jauron (’17).
Jauron started his freshman year on the starting line up on Cousino’s JV basketball team. Transferring his sophomore year to Tower, he was then on the Varsity team as their shooting guard. Jauron still has the rest of this season, and next season to show his talent to his dream colleges. Jauron says, “If I could go to my dream school, I’d want to go to Duke, or Kentucky because of the good sports and good academics.” If those schools aren’t in the cards for Jauron, he says Michigan University or a school around here would be good too.
Jauron this year has been a wonderful asset to the basketball team and their consecutive wins. “Jauron is fun to play with because he is funny but he also bring a serious mentality to the team when we need it,” says Jaurons teammate Cody Bloss (’16). Coach Evola believes Jauron is a good asset as well. “He is a good teammate, he is very unselfish and he works hard for the team,” Evola says.
Jaurons hard work and dedication is the reason he has such a big role on the team this year. “Last year he was sub for the other players, but this year he’s a starter. He is a really good defensive player and puts up a lot of points,” Coach Evola finishes.
Cody says that Jauron is a good player because he is a team player and has talent. “He does whatever he needs to do to help the team win, and he always tries to get everybody in the game,” Cody says. Even some fans can see the influence that Jauron has on the team. “You see that he is a team player, he works to get the other players the ball and is usually one of our leading scorers,” says team supporter Jenna Watson (’16).
Anyone who has seen our boys play has seen that Jauron is a good asset to the team and works hard to get the win but also enjoy the game.
