The beginning of the year has arrived! Most of you are thinking about homecoming, pep rally, and all of the fun things that come with the Fall season; however, it’s important to focus on school and your classes as early as the first day.
It’s crucial to work hard at the start of the year so you don’t get behind as the year moves on. I know, it’s a struggle getting back into the routine of school after a nice, long summer, but would you rather get to work or start off the year failing? The way you begin the year sets the tone for your two semesters: either you’re going to go in strong and willing to get things accomplished, or you’ll have to play catch up for months, just barely passing your classes.
Don’t go into school for the first few weeks expecting to be doing easy work that elementary students would be doing; your teachers are prepared and ready to get started, and you should be too. It’s especially important to keep your grades up around the busiest time of the year (spirit week/pep rally/homecoming), because without good grades, you may not be able to participate in the fun events that everyone looks forward to.
While it’s important to start the school year strong, it’s even more important to keep that strength during every quarter. In order to be successful here at WWT, you’ll have to put a lot of effort into your work. Whether it’s Gym class or Calculus, don’t get lazy! Prove to your teachers that you deserve the best grades, and prove to yourself that you’re capable of running that mile or finishing that proof.
If you ever don’t understand something or need help, that’s what the teachers and staff (even some students!) are here for . Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask your teacher for some one-on-one help. Between the teachers and tutors, there’s always going to be someone who can explain your homework to you.
Okay, we’ve established that hard work in class will help you be successful, but the most important thing is to have fun! Sports are always a great way to get away from school work, so try out if you’re interested. There are always fun events going on at the school, like the dodge ball tournament, and there are plenty of clubs to get involved in. Engaging in school activities and participating in school events can really make your high school career a lot more fun, and help you make a lot of new friends!
Overall, start off the school year by working hard, and make sure to finish it the same way. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and know that the school is filled with people who can help you, no matter what the problem is. By trying hard and having fun, a successful school year is easily obtainable.
