Art. Either it’s a skill you have, or you have to work hard to have. With the help of Mrs. Flanigan, Hannah Sanders was able to take home the first place prize at the Sandy Levin Congressional art competition: An artistic discovery.
“Mrs. Flanigan recommended me for the competition and she gave me all the papers to sign up for it,” Hannah Sanders ’18 said.
To enter the competition, each contestant had to submit any kind of artwork that they wanted.
“I submitted a colored pencil because it is easier to put in details and because I’m better at it. I have liked art ever since I was little, but I have just recently started doing big art projects like this. For a career, I want to be a interior designer or something with architecture,” Sanders added.
Many artists choose to use art as a calming outlet; Hannah uses art as a way to put things that have happened in her life into a different perspective.
“My favorite type of art would have to be modern, but not abstract modern, just modern,” Sanders commented.
The prize? Two plane tickets to D.C for the ceremony and her artwork will be on display in the capital until next year.
“I was shocked when I found out that I won. There were so many other artists entered, and so many other pieces of art, that I did not think I had a chance. It hasn’t really hit me yet,” Sanders stated.
Hannah Sanders is proof that If you work hard enough at something, first place is never not an option!
