The time has come, float is here again. Homecoming is around the corner and each class is starting to create their own, unique (hopefully) winning design. For the seniors it’s a battle for the top and the incoming freshmen are trying to make their mark and prove their place.
Class advisors are a big help when it comes to float building. They are a necessity for the students, overlooking the building of the float, and ensuring their class is well supplied for the build. The class advisors keep the ball rolling so the float is completed on time.
This year, for the seniors, there was a little change in advisors. The new advisor, Mr. Vukich, joins four-year class advisor, Mr. Dougherty. Both are working together to get the best results out of their class and to erect the best float possible. Their theme is Super Mario Brothers, a classic video game that is well-known and well liked.
The senior’s float building has started rather rocky, with low attendance. Senior’s are greatly encouraged to participate in their float building. “This is the last time any of you can participate. I can’t stress enough for seniors to come out to float and help!” Mr. Dougherty exclaimed.
Juniors are led by Mrs. Marx and Ms. Adams. They are aiding the class to create a PacMan themed float. These new upperclassmen need to step up and show how they can bring the heat during float. They must keep up the momentum from last year’s win, and prove they are the ones to beat.
Donkey Kong was the chosen theme for the sophomores. Mrs. Flanigan and Mr. Vernengo will be sure to keep them in the race. Mrs. Flanigan, being an art teacher, gives them a little inspiration. With Mrs. Flanigan’s art expertise and Mr. Vernengo’s drive the sophomores look to have the most creative float.
“Float is going well, you know the usual float stuff. I’m excited about this year and having Donkey Kong. I hope it comes out great!” Jenny Tran ’14 declared. The sophomores will be pomping in a fervor in hopes of staying in the running for the winner.
Last but not least, the freshmen are preparing for their first float ever. Class advisors Mr. Correll and Mrs. Pagila are ready to motivate their class, and eject these Freshmen right into the middle of high school Homecoming experience. Though the freshmen are nervous, with their theme of Sonic the Hedgehog, they are hoping for a speedy victory.
The students should be expected to work hard to produce the best float possible. October 1st will be the big reveal of what the students have created during the Homecoming Parade. All the excitement from float collects upon the streets during the parade. Each class crosses their fingers in hopes that their float will rise to the top during the judging that same day.
