There’s a new trend that is sweeping the nation amongst those who want a fun, creative way to take their selfies – it’s the selfie stick!
A selfie stick is a metal monopod with a clamp on the end that holds on to cell phones and cameras. All you have to do is place your device inside the clamp, extend the pole to the length you would like it to be, set the timer on it, and BAM – you have the perfect selfie!
The selfie stick hit the market last year and people all over the world (teenagers, adults, celebrities, and even President Obama) have become obsessed with it. In fact, Mrs. Curcio, English teacher, has experienced this first hand. “I went to Universal Studios on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and I saw a group of tourists from South America there. They were all young teenage girls and each of them was using a selfie stick. I don’t even think they went on any rides! They were all too busy taking selfies,” Mrs. Curcio shared.
Not only did Mrs. Curcio witness the selfie stick epidemic, but the band students who recently went to Disney World saw it as well. “There were so many people using selfie sticks while we were at Disney, especially those who were trying to take selfies with Cinderella’s castle in the background,” Haley Kreinbring ’15 mentioned.
This latest craze is so popular that TIME Magazine included it on their list of ‘The 25 Best Inventions of 2014.’ If this invention is THAT popular, than what are you waiting for? Head on out to your local Best Buy store or log on to Amazon.com and buy yourself a selfie stick today!
